Nornickel rejects $2.1 billion fuel spill charge
MMC Norilsk Nickel PJSC said it disagreed with a Russian watchdog’s 148 billion-ruble ($2.1 billion) estimate of the damage caused by a fuel spill from one of its storage tanks in the Arctic.
The Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources, known as Rosprirodnadzor, used the highest damage coefficient, which assumes the company did nothing to mitigate the impact of the spill, Nornickel said. That isn’t correct, said the miner, which called in a specialist clean-up team from Murmansk after the accident.
The estimate is “based on principles that led to distortion of the results and needs to be adjusted,” Nornickel said in a statement on Wednesday.
The damage estimate announced by the ecological watchdog on Monday would represent the largest environmental fine in Russian history. Nornickel reiterated its commitment to fund the clean-up, which it estimated at $150 million in June, excluding any fines.
Nornickel has sent a letter to the watchdog, outlining the flaws in its damage estimate. That includes using incorrect figures for the amount of fuel that leaked into the water.
The watchdog didn’t immediately comment, although Dmitry Kobylkin, Russia’s natural resources and environment minister, told Interfax that the he stands by the estimate. If the company can prove that it didn’t cause such extensive environmental damage, it has the right to do so in court, he said.
Nornickel shares rose as much as 2.2% in Moscow and were trading up 1.1% at 12:46 p.m. local time.
In June, the company spent more than 5 billion rubles on clean-up costs for the spill. More than 33,000 tons of water and fuel mixture has been collected in the area and over 172,000 tons of contaminated soil have been removed.
TIC Insert Jaw Crusher Wear Parts Manufacturer
H&G Machinery has improved our customer jaw plate by TIC(titanium carbide) insert. H&G Machinery TIC insert jaw plates are designed to improve efficiency and reduce costs by extending wear life and minimizing downtime.
Compare with normal manganese jaw crusher liners, our TIC insert wear parts span life can be 2-3 times. Based on our customer feedback, the more hard material to crush, the longer span life.
Benefits
- 2-3 times span life than normal manganese jaw plate
- TIC insert jaw plate can decrease your plant downtime
- Higher cost performance compare with normal manganese jaw crusher liner
- More easily to install
Case Studies 1: Canada Customer
Background
Our Canada customer send normal manganese jaw plates to his Nicaragua customer. its span life 7 days for fixed jaw plate,14 days for movable jaw plate. However, Nicaragua customer need more wear parts.
Challenges
We designed a set of TIC insert jaw plates which featured titanium carbide (TiC)inserts in the high wear areas of the manganese alloy jaws. Upon analysis, the fixed jaw showed wear in areas without TiC inserts, indicating that the highly abrasive material made contact with the entire surface of the plate. The movable jaw also showed excessive wear in the wedge.
Our engineers decided on TiC inserts throughout the entire impact surface of the 2 jaws to further increase wear life. The addition of a full length curved plate in the movable jaw further increased wear life.
Performance & Results
The final design of the fixed jaw plate solved a critical wear issue for Nicaragua customer. Our customer certified the wear life of the TIC insert jaws operated for 726 hours, or just over 30 days of 24-hour continuous operation. This dramatic improvement of over 8.57 times the wear life of the original manganese jaws was met with extreme satisfaction. The engineers expressed confidence in the movable jaw and do not feel the need to test its wear life as they “expect exceptional functioning knowing the performance of the fixed jaw”.
Case Studies 2: Philippines Customer
Background
Our Philippines customer have two sets of SBM PEW760 jaw crushers, and he uses those plant to crush very hard stone. However, because of crush hard stone, the HPT300 jaw crusher wear liners need exchange very frequently.
This Philippines customer had tested many customers products, but no supplier’s product can work more than 25 days.
Challenges
After get Philippines customer inquiry, our engineer start to analysis this problem. Upon analysis, our engineer use TIC bars(40mm long, 8mm wide) to insert the wear area.
Performance & Results
After 55 days work, Philippines customer stop his plant and check our TIC insert jaw plate. All fixed jaw plate and movable jaw plate work very well, however, the normal manganese check plate had broken.
- Our TIC insert PEW760 jaw plate span life can be 2.5-3 times than normal manganese jaws.
- Obviously, our TIC wear parts have higher cost performance.
